We spoke to Wayne Heathcote, Managing Director of Criptic Arvis, about their journey and the industry over the last 40 years.
What have been the biggest milestones for Arvis over the last 40 years?
Our biggest milestone is happening right now! We are just hitting 40 years in business.
However there have been many stepping-stones along the way, the company has always had the foresight to invest in new technologies. We had our first fully automated CNC machine in the early eighties which enabled us to increase production.
We then moved to bigger premises a few years later which gave the business room to expand, this coincided with the BS 5750 (now ISO 9001:2015) accreditation enabling the company to achieve ISO standards certification and sustainable business performance.
What big changes have you seen in the industry over the years?
The biggest change must be the world wide web and having a website!!
The invention and popularisation of the internet has introduced a massive wave of changes to business, and in the way the world does business. In fact, the internet made the global marketplace more accessible via immediate connections and lines of communication and resources.
What have been the best bits for Arvis so far?
Every time we open the shutters in the morning!
We have been solving bearing problems since 1981 and been involved in numerous projects providing our expertise to industries such as Steel works, Quarry plants , Agricultural plants, Conveyors, Material handling, Food machinery, Foundry plant, Mining, Marine applications are just a sample of where Arvis products have been required over the years.
What advice would you give to people starting out in the industry?
1. Do your research and consult the experts.
2. Look at your competitors and differentiate yourself from them.
3. Trust your gut and lead with passion.
Is the industry a good sector for young people to get involved in?
Over the last 40 years Arvis has shown continuous commitment to its apprentice training. Our model has worked for years and continues to do so, the level of employee retention is testament to this, and the growth of the company is also a testament to this. Arvis has continued to show its commitment to the youth of our area and giving them the chance we were given as apprentices. Our commitment is stronger now than ever to our apprentices and ultimately, they are the winners whether they choose to remain with Arvis or move on with their career elsewhere, they will leave with first class training.
How are you going to celebrate the 40 years in the industry (once the restrictions are lifted)?
There are no immediate plans to celebrate because of the restrictions placed upon us.
In another world we would have booked a company family outing to a well-known theme park or a day at the races!
What do you see for the next 40 years?
The company has a bright future if we can continue to be innovative and keep on working hard promoting Arvis products and services to the world.
